In the middle of the mountains stands the head of the Giant. Alone, he watches the change of seasons for many years. There is a bit of romanticism and post-apocalypticism in this. In short, he impressed me a lot. I searched the internet a bit and found something about him.
In 1979, the Soviet leadership approved a project to build a dam ("Carpathian Sea") on the river Stryi. The plans were to build a hydroelectric power plant and a huge reservoir to supply water to Lviv. This is the official version.
But, as usual, there are several unofficial versions of the history of this construction. Six-meter tunnels were dug near the place where the dam was supposed to be. Therefore, it was believed that there should be some kind of military project. According to another version, deposits of radioactive minerals were found in this place, and the construction of hydroelectric power plants and reservoirs was deployed to meet the needs of producers.
In the end, the project had to be curtailed, due to great difficulties with the construction of the dam. As they say: everything that is not done is for the better. Because this construction would bury several villages under water (New and Old Kropyvnyky, Dovhe, Pereprostyne), and would also lead to the disappearance of healing springs.
